Brown sugar to the mix ...
by: PorscheLeigh

If a person uses bread crumbs like I tried, the meatloaf comes out like thick with a gritty texture. I went back to my southern, old fashioned "saltine crackers" and it came out great just like before. Whatever tomato base you use, try brown sugar as the topping. (I use salt-less crackers, there always seems to be enough salt somewhere else in the recipe). This is just my version but I'm sticking to it. It's the same as the one here only with brown sugar added.

Thank you. I appreciate this site... it's nice coming here. :)

Connie's Meatloaf
by: Connie

Here's a really good meatloaf recipe...

1 Package of ground beef
1/2 package of Jimmy Dean pork sausage (makes it meatier)
1 package of Lipton Onion Soup Mix
Celery, onion, and bell pepper finely chopped
1 can of Tomato Sauce. Del Monte makes a great meatloaf seasoned tomato sauce
and lastly, crumple up your crackers and don't forget the egg to hold it all together..!!!!
Topping..???
Now, since I am not a fan of ketchup, I take a small can of tomato paste and mix it with a little of hot water and just pour across the top of my meatloaf when it's all done. I guarantee you will enjoy this recipe!!!!

Do I add the 1 cup of Spaghetti sauce & ketchup with the meat ingredients or is this just for the top coating of the meat?

Old Fashioned Meat Loaf

This recipe will knock your socks off and I came up with it by myself.

I just use 2 pounds of hamburger, but you could use the three meats you were talking about.

Ingredients:

In a large bowl combine:
- 2 Lbs meat
- 1 onion (diced)
- 1 egg
- Half (maybe a little more) a package of saltine crackers(crumbled)
- 1 cup of any flavored spaghetti sauce(this does not make it Italian)it gives it amazing flavor.
- 3 squirts of ketchup
- Garlic powder to taste

Cooking Directions:
You set the oven at 350.

Form a loaf and put it in a cake pan.

Poke a hole in the middle with a wooden spoon (Trust me it makes the meatloaf cook evenly).

Rub the top of the loaf with a thin layer of the sauce and ketchup.

Then Cook for 1 hour.

I promise this will be a beautiful thing when you are done, and I am not just saying that because I made it.
