Homemade Biscuits Without Shortening

How do I make biscuits without shortening? I'm trying to make them with what I have in the kitchen and I don't have shortening and every recipe I've come across calls for shortening and as I said I dont have any and a recipe to make them without shorteing would be great if anyone knows one that would be great.

shortening substitutes for homemade biscuits
by: Anonymous

I have used vegetable oil or bacon grease to make biscuits when I had no shortening. The bacon grease will of course add a slightly different flavor to the biscuits. You can also substitute butter for the shortening. You just have to watch them a little closer because the biscuits will brown quicker.

use no shortening for light and fluffy biscuits
by: Debbie

To make biscuits without shortening or lard, my grandmother used to use mayonnaise. You can use the light for less calories. Just make them like you usually would only use mayo instead of the shortening. They turn out light and fluffy and you really can't tell the difference.
