This homemade apple sauce recipe was one of grandma's favorites.  Whenever I asked for candy, grandma would cook this up to satisfy my craving for sugar.  Oh by the way, Grandma's secret was to use a variety of apples to make her apple sauce delicious.  The texture and taste of your apple sauce will vary based on what type of apple is used in your recipe.  What I like most about this recipe is that it's health, nutritious, and you can eat apple sauce at anytime during your day.  Desserts just don't get any healthier than this.  One single serving of this apple sauce only has:

Homemade Apple Sauce

Recipe Ingredients:

  • 1lb 10oz – apples
  • 5 – tablespoons water
  • 1/4 – teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 – cup sugar

Cookware and Utensils:

  • 1 - measuring cup
  • 1 – saucepan
  • 1 – sieve
  • 1 – stirring spoon

Recipe Instructions:

As always, the key to great cooking is to be prepared and use quality ingredients.

  1. Wash and remove core from apples. Peel the apples and cut into small pieces.
  2. Place your apples into a saucepan and bring to boil. Reduce heat to a simmer. Continue to simmer apples until they are soft. Stir often to prevent burning.
  3. One the apples have softened, push them through a sieve. Add sugar to taste and you have applesauce. Serve warm or chilled.

Your leftover apple sauce will last for about 1 week if you cover and refrigerate it.
