I've decided to try my hand at making some homemade chicken and dumplings. The only problems is, I don't know how to make the dumplings from scratch. How do I make the dough for the dumplings? Someone please explain the procedure to me.

German Egg Dumplings Dough
by: Paul

I make my own dough using the ingredients as follows:

1/2 cup water
1 egg (I use extra large)
1-1/2 cup flour
1/4 tsp salt

Using a electric hand mixer, I mix and beat mixture until dough is well mixed and climbs the beater shafts. If climbing is not happening, I add flour a small bit at a time until it does.

I take portions of the dough and drop it into boiling water or broth. Cover and cook for 15 minutes. DO NOT PEEK!.

This works well with Spaetzle Maker. Deposit dough in sliding bin, work back and forth over boiling water. Cooked dough will rise to top almost immediately, no need to cover.

Ready Made Frozen Dumplings
by: Jay

I am assuming you want to learn how to make dumplings for your soups, stews or dumplings recipe. If this is the case a quick and easy method would be to use ready made frozen or refrigerated dumplings.

With ready made dumplings all you have to do is boil them in your soup, stew or dumpling broth for a delicious meal. You can usually find ready made dumplings at your local grocery store.

While you're here be sure to check out this two dumpling recipe:
